Chris Cheek Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Chris Cheek began playing the alto sax at the age of 12. Thanks to a strong public school music program and a highly supportive family, Chris had good educational and performance experiences from the very beginning. While attending Webster University, Chris played with a variety of local Jazz and Blues bands including legendary saxophonist Willie Akins' group and the Bob Kuban Brass. Chris went to Boston in 1988 to attend Berklee College of music where he studied with Herb Pomeroy, Joe Viola and Hal Crook. Chris moved to New York in 1992 and since then has toured and recorded with Paul Motian, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, The Bloomdaddies, and the Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos . Chris has also played with Bill Frisell, Brian Blade, Lee Konitz, Carla Bley, Tom Harrell, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Frank Carlberg, Eliot Zigmund, Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel and many others! Chris also plays with the Brooklyn Boogaloo Blowout, Rudder, Steve Swallow's Quintet and Guillermo Klein's 'Los Guachos'. In addition to appearing on numerous CD's as a sideman, Chris has recorded 4 albums as a leader for Fresh Sound Records. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.

John Medeski, Billy Martin and Chris Wood have re-defined the musical possibilities of the jazz trio. With a remarkable career spanning two decades, the three New Yorkers have become masters of groove and excel on stage. They communicate with their audience with a skill close to telepathy, play legendary gigs, in an instinctive and vastly enjoyable style. Their concert at Cully in 2012 is still in everyone's memory. After a great number of live and studio recordings, their latest trilogy, 'Radiolarians', is a treasure trove of devastating riffs, revisited on stage according to the mood and inclination of the moment. With funk gimmicks and bluesy phrasings, they borrow from a wealth of musical references and turn them into a veritable sound explosion. In this concert, they are accompanied by the immense guitarist Nels Cline, equally at ease on John Coltrane classics as when he plays with alternative rock band Wilco.

The production's exquisite refinement made a lasting impression; it is being revived today at the Opera Comique. From the day it was first performed at Louis XIV's court, as was customary, Atys has been called 'The King's opera'. It was known that the king, who had been closely involved in the preparation of the opera, enjoyed humming some of its airs. It was consequently a triumph when it opened to the public at the Théâtre du Palais Royal in April. Each revival was equally successful, as were the parodies - a clear sign of popularity. With its elegant form and expressive music, the inventiveness of the dances and the unprecedented dramatic intensity, Atys was also the first opera whose libretto focused on love, and the first Tragédie Lyrique where the hero died onstage. It introduced a poetry of feelings into the theatre of conventions; the sufferings of the nymph Sangaride and the shepherd Atys, the jealousy of the goddess Cybèle and the unforgiving dictates of her cult, illustrate the confusion of young love confronted with a world of intransigeance and sacrifice.

It was composed in 1686 on a libretto by Philippe Quinault and is often considered as the masterwork of both artists. The argument of the tragedy is borrowed from Tasso's 'Jerusalem Delivered' (Gerusalemme liberata) and tells of the witch Armide's unrequited love for the knight Renaud.

One of the most original and exciting bands to emerge in years, Get The Blessing was formed by drummer Clive Deamer and bassist Jim Barr, rythm section of trip-hop's legendary band Portishead. Get The Blessing have stormed onto the scene, taking riffs and rhythms from rock, punk and dance music and artfully welding them onto inventive wild jazz improvisations, all colliding in a joyous celebration of sound. With trumpeter Pete Judge and saxophonist Jake McMurchie from Superfurry Animals completing the line-up, Get The Blessing's rocking tunes and snappy arrangements create a genre-bending blend of sounds that is all their own, flirting slyly with jazz while pounding the dancefloor with their 'gloriously powerful sound' (BBC Music Magazine).
